Vickie L. Moretz, 79, of Mason City, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Vickie L. Moretz, 79, of Mason City, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

In keeping with Vickie’s wishes, cremation will take place and she will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Jim, off the coast of California.

The daughter of Gordon and Ardith (Kinseth) Buchanan, Vickie Lynn was born on March 6, 1944 in Belmond. The family then moved to Mason City where she attended Mason City High School.

Vickie was a loving mother to her three children, Melinda, Tammy, and Chad. Eventually she relocated to California and was united in marriage to Jim Moretz.

For many years Vickie worked as an apartment manager in Orange County. Following her retirement, and after the death of her husband in 2010, Vickie returned to Iowa to be closer to family.

Vickie was known by her family for her love of the Christmas season. She spent countless hours in the kitchen baking different types of cookies and candies. She was best known for her homemade caramel, a recipe she was able to pass down to her grandson.

In her free time, Vickie enjoyed trips to the casino, playing cards, and BINGO! She liked watching the Hallmark Channel and games shows.

Those grateful in sharing in her life include her children, Melinda “Mindy” (Steven) Losoya, Mason City, Tammy Bridgman, Mason City, and Chad (Deanne) Jakoubek, Floyd; step daughter, Jodi Degner and family; grandchildren, Daniel (Sucely) Sellers, Joshua Sellers, Dustin Sellers, Jeremy Sellers (Teresa Rodriguez); Dakota Sellers, Andrea Carstens, Zach Jakoubek, Matt Jakoubek, April Bridgman and Anthony Bridgman; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Jan Dunahoo, Karen Kudla, Pam (Richard) Keenan, and Barbara (Steve) Skellenger; family friends, Danny Sellers and Ruth Beery.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; twin daughters, Robin and Renee; and brother, Alan Buchanan.
