MASON CITY - A Mason City man was hurt trying to avoid a deer early this morning as his vehviae ended up on its side, in a ditch.

MASON CITY – A Mason City man was hurt trying to avoid a deer early this morning as his vehviae ended up on its side, in a ditch.

On the September 27, 2023, at approximately 1:54 AM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident on 245th Street just to the east of Spruce Avenue. Lonnie Shane Anderson, age 60 of Mason City, was traveling east on 24th Street when a deer came out of the south ditch. Anderson slammed on his brakes to attempt to avoid hitting the deer. This caused Anderson to lose control of his vehicle and enter the north ditch where his vehicle rolled onto its side.

As a result of the accident, Anderson had a minor injury to his left elbow which included swelling and a small laceration. He declined a medical evaluation for his injury.
