Matthew Leroy Lee, 63, of Mason City, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023, at his home. Matt served his country by joining the United States Navy.

Matthew Leroy Lee, 63, of Mason City, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023, at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 P.M. Friday, September 22, 2023, at First Christian Church, 318 N Adams, Mason City, IA. Memorials may be directed to the family of Matthew L. Lee.

Matthew (Matt) Leroy Lee was born on July 7, 1960, to Marlyn Lee and Faye (Gettman) Lee in Mason City, Iowa. Matt graduated from Rake High School in 1978. After graduation, Matt served his country by joining the United States Navy. After his service with the Navy, Matt continued his education at different schools, including NIACC and UNI, earning his BA in History. Matt also worked different jobs, but his favorites were being an Engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad and a Pharmacy Tech for the VA.

Matt loved his friends and family immensely! He was always ready to bring his “life to party” demeanor to any event, including concerts, fishing, Minnesota Twins baseball games, NASCAR races and any gathering of his family and friends. Matt has a passion for history, the outdoors, fishing, boating and traveling, with the Rocky Mountains always holding a special place in his heart!

Matt is survived by his sons, James Long (Olivia) and Lee Smith (Christina); sister, Mary Wallis; brother, Michael (Mike) Lee; life-long companion/friend, Susan Heath; 5 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as other beloved family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlyn and Faye Lee, and a sister, Marti Kindrick.
