MASON CITY – Juveniles flashing guns at other motorists in Mason City were nabbed in a traffic stop Wednesday night.
On September 20, 2023 at about 9:01 PM, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s dispatch received a call of subjects in a vehicle brandishing guns at another occupied vehicle near the intersection of 19th Street SW and South Pierce Avenue in Mason City. A vehicle description was given by the 911 caller. A few minutes later, a Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Deputy located the suspect vehicle and made a traffic stop near the intersection of 34th Street SE and South Federal Avenue in Mason City. Mason City Police arrived a short time later to assist with the stop.
During the stop, two juvenile males were arrested, one age 15 and one age 16 years, both from Mason City. One of the juveniles resisted arrest while having a loaded handgun in his waistband, and was taken into custody without any injury. This 16-year-old juvenile was found to be in possession of a 9mm handgun, reported stolen out of Clear Lake. The 15-year-old passenger was found to be in possession of a second 9mm handgun, reported stolen out of Northwood, Iowa.
Both juveniles were arrested, processed at the Cerro Gordo County Jail, and transported to the North Iowa Juvenile Detention Center in Waterloo, Iowa.
The 15-year-old was charged with Terrorism, a class B felony, theft 3rd degree for possession of the stolen handgun, and minor in possession of a dangerous weapon.
The 16-year-old was charged with theft 3rd, minor in possession of a dangerous weapon, and interference with official acts. Deputies were assisted at the scene by Mason City Police.
