Dawn Marie Stevens, 46, of Nora Springs, IA; passed away surrounded by family September 11, 2023, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, IA 50401. The family will hold visitation the night prior, Friday September 15, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Dawn was born December 10, 1976, in Mason City, IA; daughter of Kenneth and Catherine (Markwardt) Stevens. She graduated from Nora Springs-Rock Falls High School with the class of 1995 and later went on to earn her associates degree in photography at Hawkeye Community College. Dawn worked as a Learning and Development Specialist at Principal Financial Group for 18 years.
Dawn was very active in the Boy Scouts all throughout her boys’ childhoods. She would take them camping and on outdoor adventures as often as she could. Dawn was known for her spontaneous camping trips that she’d put together at the last minute. Family and friends looked forward to what she called “Adventures with Dawn”. She loved to travel, paint, hike, kayak, deer hunt, sit at the beach, and cheer on her Packers and Hawkeyes. Anything that would take her outside she enjoyed. Dawn was always taking pictures, especially of sunsets, mountains, and of her boys. Although an avid lover of photography, she preferred to be behind the camera instead of the one captured in a moment. However, her family feels her presence in each memory she captured.
Those left to cherish Dawn’s memory include her sons, Kolton Byrne and Karson Stevens; stepdaughter, Jessica Frank; parents, Ken and Cathy; sisters, Rebecca Stevens, and Barb (Jason) Grunklee; niece, Faith Albright; nephews Evan and Jude Grunklee; aunts and uncles Phil (Ann) Stevens, Kay (Dave) Johnson, Pat Smit, and Dennis Foss.
Preceding her death are her grandparents, Edward and Gertrude Stevens and Irene Markwardt; stepson, Jimmy Byrne; and aunts and uncles, Bill Nicholson, Ron Nicholson, Donnie Smit, Carl Markwardt, and Paulette Foss.
