Lorraine T. Borcherding, 93, of Mason City, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at the Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mason City. She enjoyed working at Sunbeam Preschool at Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was a devoted member.

Lorraine T. Borcherding, 93, of Mason City, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at the Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mason City.

A private graveside service will be held in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City with Rev. Sean Smith of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating.

Lorraine was born December 27, 1929 in Yankton, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Gladys (Schroeder) Kohoutek. At a young age the family moved to Mason City from Yankton and Lorraine attended Mason City High School, graduating with the class of 1947.

Following high school Lorraine began working for Northwestern States Portland Cement Co. in Mason City where she met an accountant named Merllin Borcherding. They were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer on November 25, 1954.

Lorraine devoted her time and energy to raising their four children and tending to the home she and Merllin built in 1955. In later years she enjoyed working at Sunbeam Preschool at Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was a devoted member. She enjoyed time spent with the ladies of her circle at Bethlehem and served as an election worker in Cerro Gordo County for many years.

She is survived by her children: Allen Borcherding, Minneapolis, MN, Kathy (Dr. Jim) Janka, Osage, Tom (Sarah) Borcherding, Atlanta, GA, and Scott Borcherding, Mason City; grandchildren, Clark Janka, Todd (Lydia) Janka and their son, Parker; and Paige, Grace, and Sarah Jane Borcherding; sister in law, Marlene Borcherding and brother in law, Gordon Borcherding; as well as her extended family members.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merllin in 1995; daughter in infancy, Jean Ann in 1956; and siblings, Lucille Cookman, Mary Young, and John Kohoutek.
