James Robert Burbridge, age 44, of Charles City, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.

James Robert Burbridge, age 44, of Charles City, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.

A funeral service for James Burbridge will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Horton Baptist Church in Waverly, Iowa with Pastor Greg Gosnell and Pastor James Livingston officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Paton Township Cemetery in Paton, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 4, 2023, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.

James was born July 16, 1979, to Charles Russell and Anna Burbridge in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Prairie Valley High School in 1997. He continued his education at Simpson College and Iowa State University. Graduating from Iowa Central Community College and started working in IT.

James married Rachel Lynn Gast on November 4th, 2006. They moved to Charles City, Iowa where he continued to work for Fort Dodge Animal Health in their IT Department. Although it changed names several times James continued to do IT for the same department until he was unable to work in 2022.

After moving to Charles City, they had 1 son, Isaac Burbridge.

James and his son, Isaac, had a great bond of nerdy things and playing computer games together. James enjoyed playing computer games online with a community of friends. He loved spending time in the boat fishing or sitting on a shore trying to catch “the big one”. James watched the Patriots every football season. His most recent short-term goal was to watch the Patriots play their August preseason games.

James is survived by his wife, Rachel Burbridge and son, Isaac Burbridge, both of Charles City; brother, Earl Burbridge of Urbandale; parents-in-law, Bruce and Kay Gast of Fort Dodge; brothers-in-law: Nathan (Shana) Gast of Urbandale, Daniel Gast of Fort Dodge, and Matthew Gast of Phoenix, Arizona; and sister-in-law, Ami (Robert) Walz of Belgrade, Minnesota; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and both paternal and maternal grandparents.
