Robert “Rob” Gilliland, 37, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City. He graduated from Charles City High School in 2005.

Robert “Rob” Gilliland, 37, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2023, at The Bridge Church in Charles City with Eric Voss officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday with a reception immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family.

Robert William Gilliland, the son of Benjamin Rieck and Sally Gilliland, was born on July 4, 1986, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Charles City High School in 2005. While in high school, Rob was an exceptional trumpet player and continued to play a short while into his adult life. Rob worked as a cook, assisted with grounds crew and landscaping, and was a manufacturer as well as a de-manufacturer. Rob loved to spend his time outdoors, exploring nature and fishing with his sons. He also enjoyed helping his friends, collecting, junking, and tinkering with automobiles.

Living family members include his sons: Brodee and Ayden Gilliland of Charles City; daughter, Abreanna McDaniels of Spencer; mother, Sally of Charles City; siblings: Seth Rieck of Colorado, Amanda Wolf of Creston, and Danielle Rieck of Johnston; great aunt and uncle, Larry and Marcy Gilliland of Sarasota, Florida; and many other loving family members.

He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents, Robert and Ferne Gilliland.
