Lorene Anne Nicol, 87, of Osage, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

A funeral service for Lorene Nicol will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church in rural Osage with Pastor Joel Nye officiating. Burial will be at the Osage Cemetery with a lunch to follow at the American Legion in Osage.

Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Lorene was born on January 15, 1936, to Harvey Eugene and Genevieve Lorene (Knight) Tibbits in Osage. Genevieve passed away just weeks after her birth, and Lorene was raised by her aunt Ella (Tibbits) Angell. Lorene graduated from Osage High School in the class of 1953. In June of 1955, she was married to John “Jack” Michels of Stacyville. To this union three sons were born, Stephen, Jeffrey, and Russell. They made their home in Cedar Falls until their divorce in 1967. In September 1970, Lorene married Carroll “Nick” Nicol of Osage. Their daughter Laurie completed the family.

Lorene was a successful Avon Lady for many years. She was known for her love of garage sales and ice cream, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and half-siblings.

Left to mourn her loss is her husband of 52 years, Carroll Nicol; sons, Steve, Jeff (Jane), and Rusty (Shari) Michels all of Osage; daughter, Laurie Nicol of Cambridge, Minnesota; grandchildren: Chris (Alicia), Chelsea (Jobe Goodale), Cassandra, Scott (Annie), Tom (Jennifer Riggs), and Joe Michels, Natalie (Neil) Bauer, and Zach (Ashley) Michels; and 12 great-grandchildren.
