Fifth suspect charged with murder of Iowa man

DUBUQUE – After an Iowa man was brutally shot dead during an alleged robbery, a fifth person has been arrested and charged, accused of his murder.

DUBUQUE – After an Iowa man was brutally shot dead during an alleged robbery, a fifth person has been arrested and charged, accused of his murder.

Dubuque Police Investigators filed a charge in connection to the February 7, 2023 shooting death of 31-year-old Lonnie E. Burns of Dubuque.  28-year-old Terry J. Valrie of Dubuque, IA was arrested on May 25, 2023, by the US Marshals Service in Rock Island County, IL. Valrie has been charged with 1st-degree murder and 1st-degree robbery. A total of five persons have now been charged in relation to this incident.

This investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges are possible.

25-year-old Aaron C. Johnson, of Chicago, IL, has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of Burns.  Three additional suspects have been arrested in connection with this case. 30-year-old Jermaine D. Bolds of Dubuque; 16-year-old Tiarha D. Godwin of Maquoketa, Iowa; and 18-year-old Laniga G. Hannon of Dubuque were all arrested this week. All three have been charged with 1st-degree murder and 1st-degree robbery.

Murder in the first degree is a class “A” felony punishable by life in prison. Robbery in the first degree is a class “B” felony punishable by no more than 50 years in prison.
