Several NIACC baseball players receive all-region honors

MASON CITY - NIACC's Ben Rosin and Adam Berghult were both selected to the 2023 ICCAC Division II baseball all-region first team.

MASON CITY – NIACC’s Ben Rosin and Adam Berghult were both selected to the 2023 ICCAC Division II baseball all-region first team.

Rosin, a sophomore, was a first-team all-region selection as a pitcher. Berghult, a freshman, earned first-team honors as designated hitter.

NIACC freshman Jacob Crissinger was a second-team all-region selection as a pitcher.

Earning honorable mention all-region honors for the Trojans were redshirt freshman Cooper Mollet (pitcher), sophomore Bennett McCollow and freshman Will Couchman (infield), freshman Eli Anderson (outfield) and sophomore Alex Berreth (designated hitter).

Rosin, a right-hander who was an honorable mention all-league pick in 2022, was 4-1 in ICCAC games with 44 strikeouts and seven walks in 38 1/3 innings pitched. Rosin, who was the ICCAC pitcher of the week for the week of April 17-23, had an earned run average of 3.76 in league games.

Berghult hit .451 in league games with 12 home runs, seven doubles, 36 RBIs and scored 38 runs.

Crissinger, a right-handed reliever, was 4-0 in league games with seven strikeouts and four walks. Crissinger, who appeared in 12 games, did not allow an earned run in 14 innings of work.

Mollet, a right-handed reliever, was 1-2 with 20 strikeouts and seven walks in 11 2/3 innings of work. Mollet, who appeared in nine games, had a 3.09 ERA.

McCollow hit .314 in ICCAC play with 10 home runs, nine doubles, 23 RBIs and scored 41 runs.

Couchman hit .341 with eight home runs, seven doubles, 21 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

Anderson hit .326 with seven doubles and three triples.

Berreth hit .333 with five doubles, three home runs and 17 RBIs.

NIACC was 24-29 overall in the 2023 seasin with a record of 19-14 in the ICCAC, which earned the Trojans the fifth-seed for the NJCAA Region 11 Division II tournament.

The Trojans went 1-2 at the regional tournament. They topped fourth-seed Northeast CC 5-4 in their first-round game and then dropped a 7-5 decision to top-seed Iowa Central and bowed out of the tournament with a 8-7 loss to Northeast CC.
