Sally Irene (Hjelle) Anderson, 72, of Mason City, IA, passed away, May 14, 2023, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.
A memorial service will be held 5:00 pm, Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, IA 50401. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Sally was born January 18, 1951, in Mason City, daughter of Helmer and Nita (True) Hjelle. She attended Mason City High School and later earned her GED. She met the love of her life, Gary Robert Anderson in 1967. They married January 25, 1969 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. Sally worked as a waitress for the Maid Rite on both the North and South end in Mason City.
Sally was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She adored sitting in the sun and collecting antiques, especially stained glass and German dolls. Her mannequins that displayed her collection of old Victorian dresses were decidedly unique amongst her family. Sally took great pride in her home; even going as far as painting each spindle a different color. Maintaining the Victorian style of her home was her passion. Any time she could spend with her grandchildren, she took it with open arms. She would find any reason to take them out shopping.
Sally is survived by her husband, Gary; son, Brent (Sherri) Anderson of Iowa City, IA; grandchildren, Amber (Neil) Petersen, Genevieve (Dylan) Friest, and Nathan Anderson; great-grandchildren, Piper, Eden, and Jack; father, Helmer; siblings; Larry (Margaret) Hjelle, Marty (Nancy) Hjelle, and Robin Hjelle; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Sally was preceded in death by her mother, Nita; siblings, Hans, Mickey, Merle, and Sue; and great-granddaughter, Isla.
