Diane was born on July 13, 1947, in Primghar, IA, the daughter of Walter and Minnie (Huemoeller) Bartels. She was raised in Spencer, IA where she attended school. On December 6, 1969, Diane married Robert Eldean Garnas, together the couple had three children. Over the years Diane spent her time working various jobs that helped people. Diane worked at Tom Fretty’s for a short while before going to La James Beauty School and began working at the Golden Slipper. Eventually, she purchased the Golden Slipper and moved the shop to their farm. After being a beautician she cleaned and painted houses. Later on, Diane and her daughter became owners of Curves for Women in Clear Lake from 2002 to 2008. She was a hard worker and wasn’t shy about helping on the farm.

Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown, IA was Diane’s church home; she participated in WELCA, Altar Guild, and the Quilting Group. Diane was a 4H Leader for numerous years. Every winter since 2011 she and Eldean would winter in Alamo Paradise Acres, Alamo, TX. Diane loved to play cards, especially, hand and foot. She also enjoyed gardening and painting. Something Diane looked forward to was ice cream, it could be served with pie or a bar, but plain was fine too. Ice cream had to be eaten just about anytime the family was out and about. Above her favorite treat and being a staple in her community, Diane cherished her family most. Being able to support her family as a wife, mother, and grandmother was what made her the happiest.

Those left to cherish memories of Diane are her husband of 53 years, Eldean; children, Robert Eldean Garnas Jr., Ryan (Sara) Garnas, Rachel (Eric) Hejna; six granddaughters, Mariah (Kori Miller) Garnas, Makayla Garnas, Katie (Hunter Lipp) Garnas, Kirsten Garnas, Addison Hejna, Alexus Hejna; two great-grandsons, Waylon and William Miller; brother, David (Faith) Bartels; brother-in-law, Jade Bailey, Richard (Sandra) Garnas, Lee Helm, Rodney (Kim) Garnas, and Randy (Laurie) Garnas; sister-in-law, Roberta (John) Cook; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Diane is preceded in death by her parents, father and mother-in-law, Robert and Evelyn Garnas, as well as her sister, Patricia Bailey and sister-in-law, Rebecca Helm.
