On March 28th, 2023, Khamsouk Sounalath gained her wings and went to walk with the angels. She was 84 years old when she passed in Mason City, Iowa. Born in Xieng Khouang, Laos, Khamsouk came to the United States in 1991 due to the Royal Lao Kingdom falling to communism.

Khamsouk enjoyed being the food critic of her talented children’s cooking, always made sure everyone has eaten, treasured seeing the children laugh and play, made everyone chuckle with her sarcasm, and watched her music videos or programs that reminded her of her beautiful homeland while she enjoyed her favorite snacks that everyone would always gift her. She also loved fashionable clothing, lipstick, perfumes, and face creams.

Aphayavong of France, younger brother Khamsene Aphayavong of Canada, sons Sompheth Sounalath (MN) and Somphou Sounalath (IhA), daughters Chansamone Sounalath (Laos), May Samona (KS), Phornsavanh Syakhasorn (IA), Soulivanh
Sounalath (Laos), 18 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren plus 1 on the way.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ounkham and
Phimpha Aphayavong; her beloved husband Somphamit Sounalath; brothers Somminh Aphayavong and Chanthavong Aphayavong; sister Vankham Thengthongsy.
