WAVERLY – A day after a Northern Iowa woman pled guilty to domestic abuse and given a deferred judgement, she was arrested on drug charges after allegedly battling cops during a traffic stop.

On March 15, 2023 the Waverly Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation on 4th Street SW. Upon further investigation, the driver, 29-year-old Samantha Ledesma of Waverly was arrested for 2nd Offense Possession of Controlled Substance Violation – cocaine (Class D Felony), 2nd Offense Possession of Controlled Substance – marijuana (Aggravated Misdemeanor). The traffic stop may have turned physical, as Ledesma was also charged with assault against a Peace Officer (Serious Misdemeanor), and Interference with Official Acts (Simple Misdemeanor). There was no word on the extent of any injuries, if any, to an officer.

A day before this traffic stop incident and arrest, on March 14, court records show Ledesma pled guilty to domestic abuse assault and was given a deferred judgement by a judge, with unsupervised probation and a $430.00 fine. Back in November, Ledesma was guilty of child endangerment and illegal drug possession and put on probation, fined, and given community service. She is now charged with violating her probation.

Ledesma was booked into the Bremer County Jail, but records show she bonded out.
