BOSTON, Mass. – Iowa State freshman Tamin Lipsey has been named a finalist for the 2023 Kyle Macy Award.
The Kyle Macy Award, which is presented annually to the top freshman in Division I college basketball, is named for a guard who starred as a freshman for Purdue.
Lipsey, a Big 12 All-Freshman Team selection, led the Cyclones in assists (4.4) and steals (2.2) this season, while also averaging 7.3 points and 4.0 rebounds. His 4.4 assists were the third-most in the nation among freshmen, while his 2.2 steals were the second-most. Lipsey was one of two players this season, and the ninth in the last 10 years, to average at least 7.3 points, 4.4 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals and less than 2.45 turnovers per game.
A starter in all 33 games, Lipsey’s 73 steals were the third-most ever by a Cyclone and the most by an Iowa State freshman. He also tallied 146 assists, tied for the second-most by a Cyclone rookie and the ninth-most by any Big 12 freshman in league history.
The recipient of the award will be announced in late March in Houston, the site of the men’s Final Four.
