Judy L. Heffron, 82, of Charles City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 12th, 2023, in Mercy’s Comfort Care at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center.

Judith Lorraine Heffron was born on June 2nd, 1940, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Laurence R. and Francis W. (Luck) Strauser. She graduated in 1958 from Nashua High School.

On February 25th, 1962, she married Roger Heffron of Charles City. They resided in Charles City and from this union came two children, a son Mike in 1967 and a daughter Erin in 1976. Both Judy and Roger possessed strong Christian beliefs along with the life that would follow.

Over the years Judy was a member of several area social organizations. Among these, Monday bowling league was likely her favorite, with her team winning the League Championships one year. After several years as a home maker for her children, she worked as a Reporter for the Mason City Globe Gazette and the Waterloo Courier throughout the 1980’s and most of the 1990’s. She very much enjoyed family gatherings and treasured the bond she shared with her siblings.

She loved her grandchildren very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She spoke often about the memories shared with them. Judy always had a special place in her heart for animals of all kinds and she adored her teddy bear dog Lily (who now resides with her son Mike). Judy’s hobbies included writing poetry and photography.

Judy’s living family members include one son: Mike (Tammy) Heffron of Osage. Grandchildren: Cara Heffron of East Grand Forks, MN, Matthew (Katlyn) Heffron of Charles City, Alexis Latch of Mason City, and Allison Pommrehn of Mason City. Step-Grandchildren: Trey (Amber) Jacobs and Cory (Robyn) Jacobs both of Osage, along with 17 great-grandchildren. Sisters: Pat (Bob) Nootnagel of Charles City and Cyndee (Bob) Springer of Sarasota, FL. Brother: Denny (Deb) Strauser of Waverly. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roger in 2009, daughter Erin in 2011, and a very special niece Jennifer Mehmen in 2022.

The family wishes any memorials given in Judy’s name be sent to PAWS in Charles City.

Inurnment and a Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date.
