TULSA, OKLAHOMA – Five Cyclones carved out their spot on the podium during Session III of the 2023 Big 12 Championship Sunday afternoon inside the BOK Center.
Casey Swiderski (141) and Jason Kraisser (157) placed fourth while Yonger Bastida (197) placed sixth. Corey Cabanban (125) and Julien Broderson (174) finished in eighth place.
As a team, Iowa State dropped to third place with 121 points behind Oklahoma State (125) and Missouri (144).
Swiderski advanced on the backside after Carter Young from Oklahoma State injury defaulted in the consolation semifinals. Swiderski dropped a heartbreaker to Clay Carlson (SDSU) in the third-place match. The Cyclone, much the aggressor in the bout, fell 3-3 TB-1 (RT) by one second of riding time.
Kraisser grinded out a tough win over South Dakota State’s Cael Swensen, 5-4, in the 157-pound consolation semifinals. In the third-place bout, Kraisser lost to Wyoming’s Jacob Wright, 7-6, by a riding time point.
Bastida dropped a tight 4-2 match to North Dakota State’s Owen Pentz after surrendering a takedown with less than 30 seconds remaining in the match. The Cuba native lost his fifth-place match, 3-2, to Utah Valley’s Evan Bockman.
In the 125-pound seventh-place match, Cabanban was pinned by Utah Valley’s Kase Mauger in 4:46. Cabanban finished his first conference tournament in eighth place.
Broderson dropped a 7-4 decision against West Virginia’s Scott Joll in the 174-pound seventh-place match.
