Women’s College Basketball: Former Mason City Mohawk Anna Deets named All-Summit Conference Honorable Mention

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Western Illinois guard Anna Deets has been named All-Summit Honorable Mention, the league office announced on Thursday (March 2). Deets finished the 2022-23 regular season having played in every game and setting new personal best marks in several major statistical categories.

Deets started 26 of her 29 appearances this season and held averages of 12.6 points and 4.4 rebounds in 26.1 minutes of action per game, shooting 38.2% from the field and 83.1% from the free throw line. Originally from Mason City, Iowa, she led the team in field goals made (102), three pointers made (49) and free throws made (113), scoring in double-figures 17 times while playing 30-plus minutes on 10 different occasions.

She finished with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds against Omaha on Jan. 15, and then was named TicketSmarter Summit League Women’s Basketball Peak Performer of the Week two weeks later after averaging 29.5 points, nine rebounds and one steal per game across two contests against Oral Roberts and Kansas City.

In those two games against ORU and UMKC, Deets shot 53% from the field, 42% from deep while scoring a career-high 35 points against the Roos; at one point during that game, she scored 15-straight Leatherneck points and finished 9-17 from the field, 6-12 from deep and a perfect 11-11 at the free throw line.

Playing for the Mason City Mohawks in high school, Anna received four varsity letters… First Team All-State and All-Conference as a senior… Academic All-State recipient… three-time All-Conference selection… two-time All-District… named Second Team All-State junior year… fourth all-time leading scorer… 1,000 point club member… scored 39 points in a game, one point away from the school record… shot 48% from three in junior season…earned the academic letter award three times… on the 4.0 list… silver chord honoree.

Deets and the Leathernecks open the 2023 Summit League Women’s Basketball Championships on Friday (March 3), facing St. Thomas at 12:30 p.m.
