A funeral Mass for Tom Capesius, 75, of Lu Verne will be held Monday at 10:30 AM at Divine Mercy Parish ~ St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. A flag folding ceremony will be conducted following the Mass at the Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 PM on Sunday at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona with a Knights of Columbus Rosary beginning at 3 PM.
Thomas George Capesius was born May 19, 1947, in Algona, the son of Julius and Mary (Reding) Capesius. He attended St. Joseph School in St. Joe graduating from Garrigan High School in 1966. Following high school he served in the National Guard until 1972. Tom worked for Priebe Farms, Snap-On Tools, Winnebago Industries and Universal Manufacturing. He later worked for K-Mart until it’s closing. He then worked at Fort Dodge Laboratories until his retirement.
Tom was united in marriage to Lillian Gisch on March 15, 1969 at St. Benedict Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He loved to farm and run the machinery while working the ground. He also loved doing gardening work, riding horses, fishing, camping, and he was a diehard Minnesota Vikings fan. Tom was a true people person and loved to share his gift of gab with many of them as well as his laugh.
Thomas G. Capesius died Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Mercy One Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City at the age of 75.
He is survived by his wife Lillian of Lu Verne; three children, Greg (friend Shawna) of Sibley, Dean (Natacha) Capesius of Frisco, TX, and Lisa (Russ) Buscher of Algona; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Capesius of Livermore; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Gabby, Maxim, and Graeme Buscher, Payton Capesius, Tyler Coakly, Alexa (Abilio) Abeme and their daughter Natalie, Isabella Capesius, Logan Capesius, and Valaria and Daniel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Francis “Barney” and Irene Gisch: two brothers, John (Marjorie) Capesius and James (Beatrice) Capesius; and his sister, Joyce Capesius.
