MASON CITY – Chett Helming scored 28 points with eight rebounds to lead the NIACC men’s basketball team to a 83-65 victory over the Wartburg College Junior Varsity Sunday afternoon in the NIACC gym.
Helming, a sophomore from Lake Mills, was 11 of 17 from the field, including four 3-point goals, in the non-league victory.
NIACC and the Wartburg JV were tied 42-42 at the half, but the Trojans outscored the Knights 41-23 in the second 20 minutes. NIACC improved to 9-12 with Sunday’s win.
Also for the Trojans Sunday, Myles Tucker scored 17 points, including three 3-point goals, with seven assists and six rebounds. Jaydin Dunlap scored 14 points with three rebounds and three assists.
NIACC’s Tre’Von Shedrick scored eight points with seven rebounds.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC contest at DMACC. Game time in Boone is slated for 7:30 p.m.
