Allen Jerry “A.J.” Meints, 82, of Clear Lake, passed away January 6, 2023 at North Iowa Hospice.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., Clear Lake with Rev. Steve Bang of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, at Ward Van Slyke Chapel in Clear Lake and will resume one hour prior to Allen’s service on Wednesday.
Allen Jerry Meints was born December 17, 1940, the son of A.J. “Jack” and Odella Meints.
He graduated from Belmond High School in 1958 and later completed 4 years of electrical apprenticeship schooling. He married Barbara Jane Girkin on September 15, 1990. In his early work years he owned and operated Meints Produce, later worked for Iowa Department of Transportation, and he retired in June 2001 after working 22 years for Packard Electric in Belmond.
Allen enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, model airplanes, traveling, dancing with Barbara in Manly, and weekend trips to the casino.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two sons Rodney (Lisa) Meints of Belmond, and Darin (Angelena) Meints of Meservey; stepchildren Dianna Arndt – Loveland CO, Valerie (Randy) Mead – Waukee, Rana (Mark) Cross – Plainsville CT, Tami (Fred) Mack – New York NY, Andy (Jenny) Girkin – Urbandale, and Kevin (Brenda) Girkin – Cedar Falls; grandchildren Austin (Wendy) Meints, Taylor and Nick Meints, Merissa (BJ) Wagner, Jess Meints and Stephanie (Justin) Fournier, 14 step grandchildren, and 1 great grandson; sister, Pam (Steve) Olson and one half-sister, Sharon (Roger) Modderman, all of Belmond.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one twin grandson Benjamin Meints; brothers-in-law, Gordon Chestek, Dale Chestek, and sister-in- law Ruth Chestek, son-in-law Roger Arndt.
