College Wrestling, UNI falls on the road at No. 10 Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. - UNI put up a fight early in each bout, but ultimately came up short on Sunday afternoon as the Panthers fell to the No. 10 Missouri Tigers in Big 12 dual action.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – UNI put up a fight early in each bout, but ultimately came up short on Sunday afternoon as the Panthers fell to the No. 10 Missouri Tigers in Big 12 dual action.

No. 12 Kyle Biscoglia got the Panthers on the board at 133 pounds with a late third period takedown of Zachry Seltzer after UNI dropped the 125 pound matchup on extra points. At 149 pounds, No. 12 Colin Realbuto nearly forced his bout to overtime with No. 9 Brock Mauller, but was pinned with one second remaining in the third period as UNI fell behind 11-3 in team scoring.

Derek Holschlag, ranked 24th in the national at 157 pounds, picked up the late third period takedown of Logan Gioffre with 30 seconds remaining in the bout for his 10th win of the season. No. 10 Austin Yant stayed unbeaten on the season with his 12th win of the year by earning a pair of takedowns in the second and third periods for a 4-0 decision over James Conway.

No. 2 Parker Keckeisen scored a reversal in the beginning of the third period and finished with a late take down against Colton Hawks for a 7-2 decision victory, cutting Missouri’s lead to 17-12. Keckeisen improves to 11-1 on the season with his 5th consecutive victory.

At 197 pounds, top-ranked Rocky Elam quickly jumped on UNI’s Noah Glaser and held on for a 10-2 major decision to secure the dual win for the Tigers. No. 13 Tyrell Gordon took an early lead at 285 pounds on No. 8 Zach Elam before being forced into overtime, where Elam scored a quick takedown and sudden victory.

The Panthers also picked up a pair of victories in non-scoring extra bouts with RJ Weston defeating Jerrdon Fisher at 157 pounds, and Kalob Runyon claiming a 5-2 decision win against Jesse Cassatt at 197 pounds.

The Panthers have won their last 4 duals against the Wolverines, most recently during the 2019-20 season in a 32-12 victory at home. Utah Valley returns 3 Big 12 medalists and NCAA qualifiers from last season, including Haiden Drury (133 pounds), Ty Smith (141 pounds) and Evan Bockman (197 pounds).
