William Gene Christensen, the son of Harry and Elvira (Neubaum) Christensen, was born on April 20, 1936 in Ute, Iowa. He attended elementary at Portland Township School and later graduated from Burt High School in 1953. On September 7, 1958, Bill was united in marriage to Avis Finley at the Presbyterian Church in Algona. He was a member of the Burt Presbyterian Church where he was involved in many church activities. Bill was also a member of the Lions Club and was part of the Board of Directors for the Burt Co-op.

One of Bill’s favorite things was farming. Along with farming, he enjoyed driving school bus and the EO bus, assisting with construction jobs, and working at Aluma. He enjoyed his John Deere tractors, mowing the lawn, and gardening. Besides working on the farm, he also enjoyed watching the Wheel of Fortune and the Minnesota Twins, working on puzzle books, and playing cards and cribbage. Bill loved helping his family with their projects and spending time with his grandkids. He’d always try to make everyone laugh by telling jokes.

Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his wife of 64 years, Avis; children, Deb (Chris) Siegel of Grimes, Jeff (Lisa) Christensen of Hutchinson, MN, Janet (John) Beavers of Alexandria, MN, John (Barb Vetsch) Christensen of Buffalo, MN, and Donna (Kevin) Larson of Canby, MN; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Wayne Christensen of Olathe, KS; sister-in-law, Laura Christensen of Lacrosse, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roland and Russell; sisters, Beverly and Phyllis; brother-in-law, Roger; and sisters-in-law, Ruth and Karen.
