MAQUOKETA, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man was shot dead and police are investigating the incident.
On November 2, 2022, at approximately 5:35 PM, the Jackson County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting that an adult male had been shot and was in need of assistance. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Maquoketa Police Department officers responded to the caller’s location in rural Jackson County near Fulton and assisted the Jackson County Regional Health Center (JCRHC) Ambulances Service in transporting the male to the JCRHC Emergency Department where medical personnel declared the male deceased.
At the location of the incident, Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations personnel and JCSO deputies conducted interviews of two involved persons as well as the collection of physical evidence related to the incident. All parties involved were cooperative and no persons were detained after interview.
The deceased is identified as 60-year-old Michael A. Berg, a resident of the Maquoketa area.
The investigation is ongoing and no known community safety concerns are related to the incident. The Jackson County Attorneys Office will review the investigation.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by law enforcement officers of the Maquoketa Police Department, the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations and the Jackson County Office of Emergency Management.
