OBIT: Beverly Marie Torgeson

Beverly Torgeson, 86, of Plymouth died Monday, August 22, 2022, at Mark and Jean Torgeson’s home surrounded by love. Upon Beverly’s wishes she was cremated.

Beverly Marie Torgeson was born February 15, 1936, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Loren and Genevieve (Reynolds) Bowers. She attended and graduated from Plymouth High School. After graduation she was married to Richard A. Torgeson on Sept. 11, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Beverly and her husband Richard lived most of their lives in Plymouth. Beverly loved working in her home and garden and caring for her family. One of things that brought her great joy was the beautiful home on the Shell Rock River her husband Richard built for her and their family. It was common to find Beverly working in her flower garden, sewing, or working on some craft. You could also find her cooking or baking a delicious creation then decorating it before it could be eaten. Beverly always had a long-written list of birds she had seen on her feeders while having morning coffee in her kitchen. She loved traveling with her husband over the years. After Richards death Beverly spent a great deal of time playing games, taking trips, having Tuesday coffee, and going out to eat with family and friends. She was quite the fashionista with coordinated outfits, shoes, jackets, and hats to match along with her smile.

Beverly was very community minded. She was a Girl Scout Troop leader and received the Hidden Heroine Award from them in 1976. She served many terms on the Plymouth City Council. Beverly was always involved on some committee trying to keep Plymouth beautiful, vibrant, and sustainable for future generations could enjoy the town she grew to love so much.
Beverly is survived by two sons, Dennis (Patricia) Torgeson of Mason City, and Mark (Jean) Torgeson of Mason City; four grandchildren, Stephanie Massawe of Mason City, Sarah (Jonathan) Heinz of Mason City, Abra Christians (friend Jaramey) of Mason City, and A.J. Workman of Des Moines, IA; eight great-grandchildren; brother Robert (Joann) Bowers of Washington, IL; sister Barb (Larry) Pierson of Mason City; sisters-in-law; Mildred (Milly) Bowers of Indianola, IA and Terry (Torgeson) Beavers of Mason City, IA and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard; daughters, Karen Torgeson, Susan Trytten, and Jan Berge; brothers, Lloyd Bowers, and William Bowers; and granddaughter Shannon (Torgeson) Westrum.
