OBIT: Dorothy I. Haskins

Dorothy I. Haskins, 98, formerly of Mason City, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022 at Martin Suites Western Home Community, Cedar Falls.

A Celebration of life will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 29, 2022 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, with Rev. Daniel Hanson of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to Dorothy’s service at the funeral home on Monday.

Dorothy was born December 2, 1923 in DeWitt, Arkansas to Jessie Cullipher Gibson and Garland Gibson. She was united in marriage to Barry P. Haskins, Sr. on February 14, 1945 in Mason City. Dorothy provided childcare, cleaning, and pet sitting services in addition to sewing and alterations from her home. She was employed seasonally at Cooper Cap and Gown Company.

Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church where she volunteered in the nursery, food ministry, and was a member of the KB circle. She also was involved in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Red Hat Society.

Musicals, plays, travel, gardening, and hand crafts all filled her days. Attendance at her grandchildren’s activities and achievements gave her pride. Family time was very special, however she always longer for more; this is why she loved so long.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Barry P. Haskins, Jr. (Kaye), of Waterloo; daughter in law, Amy Land (Mark), of Ankeny; five grandchildren, Lindsay Haskins, of Fairfield, Cara (Chad) Cerullo, of Macomb, IL, Emma Haskins, of Des Moines, Sarah Haskins, of Chicago, Il, and Evan Haskins, of Coralville; step granddaughter, Jada Lippincott, of Big Sky, MT; great grandson, Alex Haskins; niece Sandy Zeller and nephew, Danny Zeller.

She was preceded in death by her mother and step father, Jessie and Jake Waldo; husband, Barry P. Haskins, Sr., in 1976; her son, Randy Haskins, in 2014; two brothers and two sisters.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Western Home Communities.
