Steven Richard Fox was born October 13, 1948 in Mason City, the son of Dick and Katie (Doolan) Fox. Growing up in Mason City, Steve graduated from Mason City High School in 1969. On October 18, 1969 he married the love of his life, Ruthanne “Ruth” Tosel in Mason City. Soon after he began his honorable service in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam, until 1971 where he received two purple hearts.

The couple had two children, Shelly and Megan. For many years Steve raised geese, chickens and ducks and later began working at Armour as a hog buyer. Later he began working at the NW States Portland Cement Company where he worked for 35 years until his retirement.

Over the years, Steve and his family raised goldfish and tropical fish, and always had a bountiful garden to eat from. He loved his 2014 Mustang convertible and looked forward to drives around town and to Forest City for A&W. Most of all, Steve’s family was the center of his world. Family vacations were very important, spending weeks away camping and traveling. He and Ruth spent many winters in Miramar Beach, Fl, taking the same road trip to get there each year. Steve was delighted to become a grandpa, and even more elated becoming a great-grandpa to his many beloved grandchildren.

Those surviving are his wife of almost 53 years, Ruth; children, Shelly (Jeff VanHorn) Fox of Mason City and Megan (Chris) Faught of Kensett; grandchildren, Jasmine (Alex) Faught, Katlyn (Ryan Bull) Tonn, Brandon Tonn, Jordan (Taylor) VanHorn and Michael (Heidi Meinders) Griffith; great-grandchildren, Skylar, Audy, Haizley, Zoey, Wyatt, Kena and Sadie; a sister, Ellen (Michael) Carter; brothers-in-law, Steve (Becky) Tosel and their children, Tim and Ann Tosel, and Tom Tosel; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Dick and Katie; and Ruth’s parents, Sy and Marguerite Tosel.
