EMMET COUNTY – A Northern Iowa man faces multiple charges after a traffic stop in rural Emmet County.
According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, a sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the 4300 block of highway 9 at 5:22pm on July 19, 2022, observed a vehicle traveling 84 miles per hour and initiated a traffic stop. Upon investigation at the scene by the sheriff’s office, the driver, 62-year-old Kevin Helfenstine of Spirit Lake became non-compliant at the scene and was placed under arrest and transported to the Emmet County Jail.
A search warrant was applied for and executed on Helfenstine’s vehicle where controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were discovered.
Helfenstine was charged with Possession of Marijuana 1st Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 2 counts of Interference with Official Acts and Speeding 84/55 zone.
