OBIT: James “Jim” Jones

“Say not in grief ‘he is no more’ but live in thankfulness that he was”

James “Jim” William Jones who had a love for chocolates, a passion for NASCAR and a knack for mechanics died on June 2, 2022 at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, Iowa at the age of 76 after a brief battle with cancer.

A funeral service will be held in celebration of Jim’s life at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Steve Hansen from Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City at a later date.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and will continue one hour before the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Jim was born in Washington D.C. on July 5, 1945 to his proud parents, Wesley and Esther (Meyer) Jones.

Jim met his sweetheart Alice Mulder in Nashua, Iowa and was united in marriage on June 13, 1965. The couple made their home in Nashua and later moved to Floyd, Iowa where they were blessed with two sons, Brian and Brad to make their family complete. In 1978, the family moved to Charles City, Iowa where Jim lived out the rest of his life.

Jim had a strong background in mechanics and pursued a career at Ted’s Auto Electric for 34 years until it closed. He then moved on to Marzen’s and Cal’s Auto Repair until he retired, both located in Charles City. Jim’s favorite spot to hang out was in his garage where he could be found sharpening a lawn mower blade or tinkering on a vehicle.

Jim leaves behind his family who will miss him. His wife, Alice Jones of 57 years; sons: Brian (Carrie) Jones and Brad (Sherry) Jones; grandchildren: Adam (Ashley) Kingery, Brandon (Veronica) Jones, Brandon (Alyssa) Holmes, Mandy (Charlie) Ostlund, Bre Jones, Hannah Jones and Cole Jones; seven great-grandchildren; siblings: Robert (Pat) Jones, Pamela Felix and Stanley Jones; as well as many friends and relatives too numerous to mention.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Jones; mother, Esther Jones; granddaughter, Brittanie Holmes; and siblings: Marguerite (Peg) Goff and Marty Jones.
