Tactical team with armored vehicle nab armed Estherville man who robbed person at gunpoint

ESTHERVILLE – A law enforcement tactical team with an armored vehicle nabbed an armed Estherville man who robbed a person at gunpoint.

On Sunday, May 22nd, 2022, Officers of the Estherville Police Department received information about an armed robbery that had taken place during the afternoon hours near the North 4th Street boat ramp. A local citizen called police to inform them about the robbery. The citizen reported that a suspect had pulled a gun on an individual and had stolen property from them.

Investigating officers conducted an investigation into the Robbery and identified the suspect as 23-year-old, Elias Michael De Jesus of Estherville. Officers obtained a search warrant for the house De Jesus was y residing in at 508 9th Avenue North in Estherville. Officers also received an arrest warrant for De Jesus for 1st Degree Robbery.

The HEAT Tactical Team was called to assist with the execution of both the arrest and search warrant. At approximately 7:15 pm, the HEAT Tactical team approached the residence at 508 9th Avenue North with an armored vehicle. The team attempted to get the suspect to comply with their directives. Following the directives, Officers breached the door of the residence where they were met by De Jesus. De Jesus was taken into custody and transported to the Emmet County Law Enforcement Center where he remains on a $25,000 cash or surety bond.

Officers also conducted 2 search warrants on Sunday, May 23rd. The warrants were executed at the home of De Jesus and vehicles located at the residence.

The investigation is still open and additional charges may be filed in this case. All Suspects are presumed to be innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.

The Estherville Police Department was assisted in the case by local citizens, the Estherville Police Reserves, the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, the Emmet County Emergency Management Director, and the HEAT Tactical Team.
