OBIT: Prudence Hoch

Prudence Hoch, age 77, of Whittemore passed away peacefully on May 6, 2022 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 9, 2022 at the West Bend Cemetery.

Prudence Forbes was born on July 25, 1944 in Sibley, Iowa. Prudy was the daughter of Giles and Eileen Forbes and was the youngest of their three daughters. Prudy graduated from Harris High School in 1962 and then pursued a nursing position. She especially enjoyed her time working at Redwood Cafe. The customers became her extended family, and she was always asking, “Any news?”

On October 30, 1965, Prudy was wed to her husband, Nicholas Hoch at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, Iowa. Nick and Prudy immediately started their own family which included three sons, Nicholas, Robert, and Scott, and one daughter, Michelle. The couple was happily married for 56 years.

Prudy enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She would often babysit her grandchildren and attend their community events. Prudy loved to shop for bargains, and her favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved buying gifts for her family and friends. Prudy also enjoyed playing cards with neighbors and friends.

Prudy is survived by her husband, Nick Hoch; children, Nick Hoch, Michelle Lawrence, Robert (Tessie) Hoch, and Scott (Monica) Hoch; eleven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Giles and Eileen Forbes; sisters, Jean Carpenter and Joan Nelson; grandchild, Kaylin Hoch; and great grandchild, Jaxson Hudspeth.
