OBIT: Iola Chickering

Iola Chickering, age 81, of Algona passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at the Algona Manor. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Burial will take place in Riverview Cemetery. Services will be live streamed on Lentz Funeral Home’s Website: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/iola-chickering Visitation will be 6 – 8 PM Friday, April 15, 2022 at the Lentz Funeral Home in Algona.

Iola Louise (McKee) Chickering, daughter of Gerald and Mabel (Thomas) McKee, was born on January 22, 1941 in Iowa City, Iowa. She graduated from Macksburg High School in 1959. On August 7, 1960, Iola was united in marriage to Marv Chickering at the United Methodist Church in Macksburg, Iowa. Iola had worked for many years as the secretary at the First United Methodist Church in Algona. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church and was involved with the many charitable organizations within the church as well as the Algona area. Iola enjoyed reading, crocheting, playing bridge, quilting, spending time with her family and attending their events and the countless missions trips that she shared with Marv.

Left to cherish Iola’s memory are her husband of 61 years, Marv; children, Kimberly (James) VanFosson of Altoona, IA, Dan (Yoko) Chickering of San Diego, CA, and Dave (Jill) Chickering of Vermillion, SD; twelve grandchildren: Amanda (Matthew) VanFosson Rauch, Aimee (Brandon) VanFosson Piper, Alyssa (Logan) VanFosson Lafler, Annika Chickering, Jennifer Chickering, Branden Chickering, Molly (Paul) Chickering Sauer, Megan (Jordan) Chickering Van Meeteren, Melissa (Lucas) Chickering Lyngaas, MeagAnn (Trever) LeCates Turner, Molly LeCates, and Melanie LeCates; twelve great-grandchildren: Keaton Rauch, Clara Rauch, Kinnick Rauch, Mason Sauer, Paisley Sauer, Scarlett Turner, Logan Van Meeteren, Willa Van Meeteren, Piper Van Meeteren, Vada Brown, Donavon Lafler and Annabella Lafler; brother: Larry (Ivy) McKee of Spring, TX; sisters: Maxine Anderson of Dayton, OH, Afada (Dwight) Silverthorn of Mesa, AZ, and Carlotta (Kenneth) Wilcox of Loveland, CO; sister-in-law, Lola (Lyman) McKee, Donna (Roger) McKee of Altoona, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Mabel McKee; brothers: Francis (Joe), Lyman, William, Roger and Melvin McKee; a sister, Lucile Brown; brothers-in-law, Arthur (Lucile) Brown and John (Maxine) Anderson; sisters-in-law, Wilma (Francis) McKee, Inez (William) McKee and Dorie (Melvin) McKee.

Memorials may be made in Iola’s name and directed to the Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Chatum, IL or the Alzheimer’s Association.
