Steckman appointed to the Executive Committee Of The Midwestern Higher Educaton Compact

DES MOINES – After 11 years as a Commissioner and Alternate for the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC), State Representative Sharon Steckman of Mason City has been appointed to the Executive Committee.

Steckman will be one of two commissioners representing Iowa on the Executive Committee for her three-year term. The term begins on June 1 of this year and continues until June of 2025.

“Education is my highest priority in the Iowa Legislature and so I am honored to get to work on helping keep higher education accessible and affordable,” said Steckman. “As a part of this excellent group of experts and lawmakers across the Midwest, my hope is our work will provide an opportunity for all students to succeed.”

MHEC is a legislatively-created agreement among 12 midwestern states to work together to further higher education within the region. Those states include 1000+ institutions and through collaboration in many areas save students millions of dollars.

The MHEC Executive Committee’s next meeting will take place on June 6 and 7 in Omaha, Nebraska. More information about MHEC can be found at: mhec.org/states.
