OBIT: Maxine G Brones (Patterson)

Maxine G. Brones was born October 14, 1922, to Herbert and Margie (O’Keefe) Patterson at Maple Hill, Iowa. She passed away on April 10, 2022, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa at the age of 99 years.

When she was six years old, her parents moved to Eagle Township, Swea City, where she received her schooling at a country school. She graduated from Swea City High School in 1940.

After graduation, she attended beauty school at Fort Dodge. After working two years, she joined the Navy WAVES, Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service. After serving 2 1/2 years, at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, VA she was transferred to the Naval Air Station in Glenview, Illinois. She was honorably discharged in February 1946.

After owning her own beauty shop in Rake, Iowa, Maxine was united in marriage to Warren Brones on April 21, 1949. After their marriage they made their home in Eagle Township and raised their family. They lived there 41 years until Warren passed away on October 24, 1990. Maxine remained on the farm until October 2004, when she moved to Estherville.

Maxine was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women. Maxine taught Sunday School for many years and enjoyed working with all ages, as well as Bible School and youth groups.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Navy Veterans Association.

Maxine enjoyed gardening and her flowers, refinishing furniture, painting, and crafts. She loved her family and always looked forward to their visits.

Maxine is survived by her son, Robert (Robyn) Brones of Swea City; her daughter, Marna (Steve) Hurley of Des Moines; and her grandchildren, Adrian, Tyler, Nicole, and Lucas; great-grandchildren, Parker, Carson, and Tanner.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Warren, her parents, Herbert and Margie (O’Keefe) Patterson, and her siblings, Herbert Patterson Jr., Lavon Moore, Margie Richardson, and Marion McDowell, brothers-in-law, Andrew (Elsie) Brones, Hubert Brones, Kenneth (Isabelle) Brones and William (Lillian) Buhmann.
