Fort Dodge woman arrested for burning down house

FORT DODGE – A Fort Dodge woman was arrested for burning down a house.

On Friday, April 8th at approximately 10:03 PM, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call of a fire in the 500 block of 3rd Avenue North. Officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department were in the area at the time the call was dispatched and arrived to find the residence of 549 3rd Avenue North on fire. The Fort Dodge Fire Department arrived and was able to quickly extinguish the fire.

Investigators with the Fort Dodge Police Department and Fort Dodge Fire Department began looking into the cause of the fire. During that investigation, it was determined that the fired was caused intentionally. As a result of the investigation thus far, 49-year-old Fort Dodge resident Shawna Searcy, has been arrested on a charge of arson in the 2nd degree, a class C felony.

Searcy is currently being held in the Webster County Jail.

The Fort Dodge Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident.

The Fort Dodge Police Department has been assisted in this investigation by the Fort Dodge Fire Department.
