OBIT: Marilyn Hillis

Marilyn J. Hillis, 81, of Charles City, formerly Floyd, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service for Marilyn Hillis will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home with Jan Tjaden officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service.

Marilyn Joyce (Jackson) Hillis, the daughter of Nyle and Katherine (Heal) Jackson, was born June 25, 1940 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. She attended school at South Beloit High School in South Beloit, Illinois.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Marlyn Hillis on December 8, 1956 in Rockton, Illinois. The couple made their home in the Floyd area for over 60 years, and were blessed with six children: Orville, Alan, Nancy, Mary, Steven and Kathy.

Marilyn worked hard at home to raise her family and help on the farm. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, canning and crafting. Marilyn loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Living family members include her five children: Orville (Tracy) Hillis, Alan (Lori) Hillis, Nancy (Harold) Hahn, Mary (Shaun) Lyons and Kathy Hillis; seven grandchildren: Audrey (Adam), Nycole, Ethan, Tyler, Collin, Cody and Sarah; five great-grandchildren: Imigin, Xander, Noah, Isaac and Coryn; sister, Mary; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marlyn on November 30, 2020; son, Steven Hillis; siblings: Darlene, June, Lillian “TeeTee”, Alvin and James; and step-father, Dexter Holton.
