UNI wrestling earns eight spots in the Big 12 seeds for championships

CEDAR FALLS – UNI wrestling secured a top-eight seed in eight weight classes for the Big 12 Championships.

The Panthers will compete at the NCAA qualifying event March 5-6 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Parker Keckeisen continues to lead the Panthers in rankings at No. 4 and tops the RPI list at 184 pounds. Keckeisen, the reigning Big 12 champion, secured the top seed for this weekend’s championships.

A total of 58 wrestlers will advance automatically from the Big 12 Championships.

Lance Runyon cracked the rankings for the first time with a top-20 spot last week. Kyle Biscoglia and Austin Yant secured top-10 RPI spots at 133 pounds and 165 pounds, respectively.

RETURNING ALL-AMERICANS / BIG 12 FINALISTS

Thirteen wrestlers expected to compete at the Big 12 Championships earned all-America honors at last year’s NCAAs.

At 125 pounds, Taylor LaMont of Utah Valley was fifth, and top-seed Killian Cardinale, West Virginia, took seventh. Daton Fix of Oklahoma State was second in the 133-pound weight class last year at the NCAAs. Clay Carlson of South Dakota State took eighth at 141 pounds. David Carr of ISU is the reigning national champion, and Wyatt Sheets of Oklahoma State took eight at 157 pounds.

At 165 pounds, Keegan O’Toole, Missouri, and Travis Wittlake of Oklahoma State finished third and fourth at the national championships. UNI’s Parker Keckeisen finished third, and Dakota Geer of Oklahoma State was fifth last year.

Three all-Americans return at 197 pounds: fifth-place finisher Rocky Elam, Missouri, sixth-place finisher Jake Woodley of Oklahoma and Stephen Buchanan, Wyoming, who took eighth.
