OBIT: Leonard Moritz

Leonard Roy Moritz the son of Hans and Edna (Jorgensen) Moritz was born May 6, 1942 in Estherville. Iowa. He passed away Friday December 17, 2021 at the West Bend Care Center in West Bend, Iowa at the age of 79 after a short illness.

Len received his elementary education at Emmet Consolidated School and graduated from Estherville High School in 1960. Len excelled as a basketball player in high school and went on to do the same at Waldorf College where he was inducted into the Waldorf College Athletic Hall of Fame a few years ago. He also attended Minnesota Bible College in Minneapolis.

In 1965 Len married Carole Hollier in Englewood, California where they lived and he worked 18 years for Continental Airlines. He later moved to Tacoma Park Maryland where he work for the city of Tacoma Park for 8 years. He returned to Estherville in 2000 and worked as a counselor at Forest Ridge until retiring in 2017.
Len enjoyed following the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Cleveland Indians. He was a deeply spiritual person and enjoyed nightly Bible studies and reminiscing with his brothers on the phone and later with his son Tim and daughter-in-law Ashley before he passed away.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: sons: Timothy (Ashley) Moritz of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Todd Moritz of Marion, Illinois; daughters: Tammy (Al) Nobel of San Pedro, California and Rosa (Malcom)Tackett of Hanford, California; five grand children: Carol Ann, Mariah, Marissa, Mary and Jacob; adopted daughter Cheryl Schwab and her son Julian. He is also survived by his brothers: Robert (Carol) of Grinnell IA, Ken (Mary Ann) of Mankato MN, and James (Harriet Ramy) of Venice FL; sister-in-law Gloria Moritz of Ankeny IA; 14 nieces, 6 nephews, and special friends Chris and Lisa Carpenter and Wally and Marian Brunsvold.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ronald and Dale and infant siblings Virginia and Dennis, his former wife Carole and special aunt Martha.

A memorial service for Leonard will be held in Estherville in the Spring.
