Frances “Fran” Deal, age 88 of Algona, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Thursday at the Algona Evangelical Free Church. Burial will take place in the East Lawn Cemetery in Algona. Visitation will be 9:30 AM until service time on Thursday at the church.
Frances Arlene Merkle, the daughter of Louis and Leah (Gies) Merkle, was born on April 25, 1933 at home on the farm near Lu Verne, Iowa. She graduated from Livermore High School in 1949. On September 5, 1965 Fran was united in marriage with Donald Deal in Spencer, Iowa. Fran graduated from La James School of Beauty and opened her own salon in 1962. She later took private piano and organ lessons at Waldorf College and later taught piano lessons in her own studio. Fran then trained as an interior decorator and designed her own home. In 1973 she opened Fran’s Praise Shop. Fran enjoyed sewing and making clothing for her family, knitting, reading and teaching piano.
Fran is survived by her children, Moni (Carl) Westling of Algona and Jon Deal of Fort Dodge; granddaughters, Courtney (Tom) Mondragon of Algona and Raelynn Thilges of Belmond; and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister Alice Wymer and her husband Ed; an infant sister, Anita; and a niece Cheryl Swedlund.
