Suspect armed with shotgun fires and injures one person, causes standoff with police in Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS – A suspect armed with a shotgun fired the weapon and injured one person, and then caused a standoff with police in Cedar Falls.

On December 30th, 2021 at approximately 2325 hours, Cedar Falls Police were dispatched to a report of shots fired and subjects yelling in the area of Longview Street. Dispatch received a second call from a subject who reported being shot by a shotgun. The victim reported that the suspect was in the area in a silver Chevy Suburban. Officers observed the vehicle as it pulled into the driveway of 216 E. Lake Street. The suspect yelled at officers and entered the residence. Officers met with the victim who was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. At this time, the victim is being uncooperative with police.

Officers made contact with the suspect via telephone at approximately 2331 hours. The suspect refused to comply with police orders, threatened to shoot police, and made several comments of harming himself. Officers set up a perimeter and attempted negotiations with the suspect for approximately 6.5 hours. Officers then deployed less lethal chemical munitions into the residence. A short time later the suspect exited the residence. At 0609 hours, the suspect was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Charges are pending.

Cedar Falls Police were assisted by Waterloo Police Department, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, Cedar Falls Fire Rescue, and Mercy One.

Mentally ill. Has been for some time. We need to treat them, not isolate them.

I’m going to take a stab in the dark and say, BLM?

If the suspect was white, they would have stated that in the press release.
