OBIT: Caroline Gilbertson

Caroline Gilbertson, age 94 of Algona, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Algona Manor Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. Services will be livestreamed on the Trinity Lutheran Church’s YouTube page https://youtu.be/QYyEihKFwFY. Burial will take place in the Fenton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 PM on Tuesday at the Lentz Funeral Home in Algona.

Caroline Emma Gilbertson, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Eichenberger) Rath, was born on October 2, 1927 in Lone Rock, Iowa. She attended Country School and Seneca High School. On November 29, 1952 Caroline was united in marriage with Ralph Gilbertson in Algona. She had worked at Welp’s Hatchery in Bancroft and as a cook in several café’s including the Hickory House. Caroline had taught outdoor cooking classes through the Extension Office. She had baked Wedding and Birthday cakes, sold craft and painting kits. Volunteered rocking babies at the Methodist Church for the CARE Team child care. Caroline was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Lions Club and the Silver Crystals CB Club. She enjoyed league bowling, handwork, word search books and reading. Her family was very important to her.

Left to cherish Caroline’s memory are her daughters, Etta (Jim) Pergande of Algona and Cara (Randy) Lewis of Emmetsburg; a son-in-law, Terry Olsen of Algona; 10 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Anna Olsen; 2 great grandchildren, Teighlor Gisch and Zoe Briggs; brothers, Jim, Marvin, Frederick and Dennis Rath; and a sister, Etta Rath.
