College Basketball: Iowa beats Alabama State, 108-82; shoots lights-out from 3-point range

IOWA CITY – Iowa beat Alabama State, 108-82, Thursday night in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Iowa posted school single-game records in 3-pointers made (20) and attempted (44). The previous school single-game 3-point records were 19-of-43 against Savannah State on Dec. 22, 2018.

Iowa’s 20 3-pointers made tonight equals the Carver-Hawkeye record (20 by Purdue on Jan. 20, 2018). Nine different Hawkeyes made at least one 3-pointer tonight.

Jordan Bohannon sank his 375th career 3-pointer to surpass Ohio State’s Jon Diebler (2008-11) to become the Big Ten’s all-time 3-point leader with 17:56 remaining in the first half. Bohannon finished the game with four made triples.

Keegan Murray led the team in scoring for the fourth straight game to start the season. The Big Ten’s leading scorer totaled 26 points, six rebounds, four assists, and one block. The sophomore forward has netted 24+ points in each of Iowa’s first four games this season.

Freshman Payton Sandfort netted a career-high 21 points, bolstered by a personal-best five 3-pointers made.

Junior point guard Joe Toussaint posted a season-high 11 points and a career-high 11 assists to notch his first career double-double.

Sophomore forward Kris Murray registered career bests in scoring (17) and rebounding (8).

Iowa scored 63 first-half points, equaling the second highest point total in a half by a Hawkeye team in the Fran McCaffery era. Iowa netted 68 first-half points against Alabama State in 2018 and 63 second-half points at Minnesota in 2018.

Redshirt sophomore forward Patrick McCaffery did not play tonight due to a lower body injury.

Iowa has topped 100 points in two of four games this season (Longwood, Alabama State).

The Hawkeyes had one 10-0 scoring run tonight. Iowa has had scoring runs of 10-0 or more a combined seven times in four games.
Tonight was Fran McCaffery’s 800th career game as a college head coach.

Iowa improved to 4-0 all-time against Alabama State.

Iowa (4-0) returns to action on next Monday (Nov. 22) against Western Michigan (1-2). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (CT) on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
