Men’s College Basketball: UNI announces roster updates

CEDAR FALLS – UNI men’s basketball’s Goanar Mar will be stepping away from athletics.

Lingering injuries played a huge role in the decision for Mar, who transferred to UNI last season.

“Goanar recently made the very difficult decision to step away from the game of basketball,” said head coach Ben Jacobson. “He has been a tremendous teammate and worker since joining our program. I appreciate all of the time Goanar has dedicated to the game. His daily example has had a real impact on our team. We will continue to support Goanar every way we can as he works to earn his degree in the spring and prepares himself for life following graduation.”

Mar will continue at UNI to finish his bachelor’s degree in liberal studies. Mar played in 15 games for the Panthers in the 2020-21 season, averaging 1.6 points per game. He finished the season with 33 rebounds.

Mar, a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, came to UNI from George Mason University. He started every game for three years as a forward for the Patriots.

ROSTER UPDATES
In other roster-related news, UNI men’s basketball intends to redshirt all three true freshmen this season.

Landon Wolf, Michael Duax and Chase Courbat will be able to use this year to get more experience before using a year of eligibility.

Courbat, a forward, and Wolf, a guard, are from Cedar Falls, Iowa. Duax is a forward from Dubuque Hempstead High School (Iowa).
