AMES – Police in Ames say a young man was shot and killed at a local bar.

On October 29, 2021, at 11:57 p.m., the Ames Police Department responded to a report of shots fired near a large crowd of people outside of the Elk’s Lodge, 522 Douglas Avenue. Officers located a 23 year-old male victim, who had been shot. The male was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center. The male later died as a result of his injuries.

UPDATE- The deceased has been identified as Stashaun D.L. Brown, age 23, of Des Moines.

Based on the initial investigation, it appears multiple shots were fired by several groups of people who were attending a private event at the Elk’s Lodge. Those who were at the event and have information about the shooting are encouraged to contact Ames Police investigators. No arrests have been made, however tips continue to come in to investigators.

The Ames Police Department continues to investigate this incident.
