Suspect charged with murder after shooting death of Iowa man at bar

DAVENPORT – A suspect has been charged with murder after the shooting death of an Iowa man at a Davenport bar.

The Davenport Police Criminal Investigation Division has charged 28-year-old Lance M. Johnson with Murder in the 1st Degree and Felon in Possession of a Firearm in relation to the October 17, 2021 homicide of Samuel Wires. On Sunday, October 17, at approximately 2:58 am, Davenport Police responded to Déjà Vu, 5220 Grand Ave disturbance. Responding officers heard gun shots. Officers arrived and found one gunshot victim. Medic arrived on scene and transported the subject to Genesis East where he was pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as Samuel Wires, 35 years old of Davenport.

Johnson was taken into custody in Rock Island by the Davenport Police Department and Rock Island Police Department and was transported to the Rock Island County Jail.

This remains an active investigation, no further information is available at this time.
