Iowa man struck and killed by motorist when leaving car to check on deer damage

WARREN COUNTY – An Iowa man was struck and killed by a motorist when leaving the car he was riding in to check on damage after hitting a deer.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place on Friday evening, October 22, 2021. At about 7:25 PM at the 45 mile marker on Interstate 35 in Warren county, 66-year-old Michael Kohli of Iowa City was operating a 2017 Lincoln MKZ when he struck a deer and became disabled in the outside lane. At this time, the passenger, 69-year-old Steven Kohli of Iowa City got out to look at the damage and was struck and killed by a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500, operated by 69-year-old Terrance Sack of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota. The Patrol says Sack was trying to drive
around on the right side due to vehicles on its left.
