Erna Adams, age 72 of Humboldt, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the West Bend Health and Rehab Care Center in West Bend. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Masks are required. Burial will take place at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Cemetery in Humboldt. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 AM until the time of the services at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Lentz Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Erna Letta Adams was born on March 25, 1949 to Arnold and Esther (Naefke) Hinz on the family farm south of LuVerne, Iowa. She was baptized in April of 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in LuVerne. Erna was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church where she also sang in the choir and taught Vacation Bible School. Erna graduated from LuVerne High School in May of 1969. She attended training at Vocational Rehabilitation Center in September of 1969. After completion, she was assigned a job at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona where she worked for three years caring for the elderly. Erna also took care of children for many years and worked alongside her parents on the family farm before she became disabled.
On September 11, 1976, Erna was untied in marriage to Roger Dewight Adams at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Loretta Marie Adams born on March 17, 1977 and a son, Merle Dwight Adams born on August 14, 1978. The marriage was later dissolved.
Erna was a member of the Ladies Circle where she served as the secretary and treasurer. She led Bible Study, served in the nursery for Vacation Bible School and taught Sunday School. Erna also kept the records up to date for the members who went to communion.
Left to cherish Erna’s memory are her siblings: Edith Halder and family of Livermore, Elden Hinz and family of Rosemount, MN, Esther Killham and family of Marion, Elaine Riggert and family of Whittemore, Eunice Beckwith and family of Thief River Falls, MN and Ellis Hinz of LuVerne; one uncle and one aunt. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; brother; cousin; and numerous aunts and uncles.
