OBIT: Rose Mary Chambers

Rose Mary Chambers, 86, of Greene, Iowa, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021 at her home.

A funeral Mass for Rose Mary Chambers will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Roseville, Iowa with Reverend Ralph Davis officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Roseville.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church social hall in Roseville and a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the social hall one hour before the Mass on Friday.

Rose Mary (Hansen) Chambers, the daughter of Bernard “Ben” and Rose (Staab) Hansen, was born January 13, 1935 on a farm near Oyens, Iowa. She received her education for three years in country school and nine years at Presentation Academy in Whittemore, Iowa where she graduated in 1952.

Rose Mary worked for Northwestern Bell in Charles City for 7 ½ years and was united in marriage to Clayton Donald Chambers on January 16, 1960 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Whittemore. The couple was blessed with eight children. They farmed and raised livestock in the Marble Rock area all of their lives. After Clayton’s passing, Rose Mary moved to Greene.

Rose Mary was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she was active in the Rosary Society and taught Sunday school (she loved to teach First Eucharist to the second graders every year). She was also a member of Catholic Daughters in Greene, a 4-H leader and a member of the Hi-Neighbor Club in rural Marble Rock.

Rose Mary enjoyed making pies and cinnamon rolls, sewing, gardening and canning. She loved and cherished time spent with her family especially playing cards with her grandchildren and supporting her children and grandchildren in all of their extracurricular activities.

Living family members include her children: David (Cheryl) Chambers of Osage, Paul (Heather) Chambers of Nashua, Karen (Keith) Heckstein of Osage, Thomas (Debra) Chambers of Rockford, Mark (Anne) Chambers of Marble Rock, Janice (Chad) Shultz of Greene, Peggy (Chad) Seidel of Cedar Falls and Sara (David) Riley of Conrad; 25 grandchildren: Jameson Chambers, Whitney (Dustin) Clark, Aarika (Anthony) Schwarck, Justin (Jessica) Chambers, Jacob Chambers, Angela Chambers, Nickolaus Chambers, Kourtney Chambers, Hannah Chambers, Isaac Chambers, Kaleb (Sara) Heckstein, Kelly (Clayton) Steimel, Kimberly (Tony) Hemann, Kraig Heckstein, Cody (Lindsay) Chambers, Kyndra Chambers, Michaela (Trevor) Taets, Rachel Chambers, Zachary Chambers, Katelyn Shultz, Clay Shultz (fiancée Addyson Clark), Alex Shultz, Derek Shultz, Grant Shultz and Raymond Seidel; three step-grandchildren: Levi (Bobbi) Kielsmeier, Robbie Fulk and Matt (Makayla) Begley; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Victor and Wayne Hansen; four sisters-in-law: Fern Chambers, Ruth Hansen, Rita Hansen and Alice Hansen; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Rose Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton on October 14, 2010; five brothers: Karl, Merlin, Bernard, Ronald and Anthony Hansen; and four sisters: Lois Vigdal, Ruth Wehrspan-Briggs, Mary Hood and Reta Hansen (in infancy).
