DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Corrections Director Dr. Beth Skinner announced that Nick Crawford will serve as Communications Director for the Iowa Department of Corrections. Crawford succeeds Cord Overton who now serves as Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the Iowa House.

“Focusing on communications is incredibly valuable for our Department,” Skinner said. “We have confidence that Crawford will be a valuable asset to our team, being a reliable source that Iowa can count on. This position will also expand the public’s awareness of the great things our agency is currently achieving and working to achieve.”

Crawford, 30, is originally from Conrad, Iowa and received his Political Science degree from the University of Iowa. He previously served in the office of Iowa Governor, Terry Branstad and spent time in Washington, D.C. as a legislative assistant for Iowa Congressman David Young. Most recently, Crawford worked in the private sector as an account executive at an Iowa based public relations firm.

“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to serve Iowans and work alongside the outstanding people at the Iowa Department of Corrections with the shared mission of ‘creating opportunities for safer communities.’ I will work hard to serve as a resource to the public and communicate the important work this Department carries out each day.”
